Ack, my lungs!

I went out for a ride at the Hydrocut yesterday. [For those of you that don't know, the Hydrocut is the best trail network in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. It is located off Glasgow between University and Highland. The Hydrocut warrants proper review, which I don't have time for right now, but I'll get to it at some point.] It was a pretty grueling ride, mostly because I am really, really out of shape. I went with a bunch of UW grad students, who are, apparently, way faster than me. That's ok, though, I still had a good time.

The trails are in great shape, dry and fast [well, for the lucky folks with the legs and lungs for it]. A small part of the new entrance trail was roped off and marked closed due to some tree removal that is being done, I think by the farmer that owns the land. In any case, we were still able to make it into the main section of trails. I imagine it will be cleared up soon.

I should warn you, if you intend on heading out there, bring bug repellant or plan to do the entire ride without stopping. There are tons of mosquitoes.

We rode Frankenstein, then headed over to the Pines for a bit. The guys wanted to do another quick loop around Frankenstein, but I was at my limit and headed back out to the car solo.

The moral of the story here kids is sitting in front of a computer for 50 hours a week and being almost entirely sedentary all winter does a lousy job of preparing you for the biking season. And, as a corollary to my first point, I need to ride more.
