Crankarm is about mountain biking. Team Crankarm rides for fun. We don't ride to impress, and we don't showcase our gear in the parking lot. Yes, we ride for the rush, but we also ride for the calm and the peace. We ride because we can't get that feeling out of our minds of the wind rushing past our faces, that we felt as youngsters when we first zoomed down the driveway on two wheels.

We felt compelled, for one reason or another, to share our thoughts. Crankarm is a collection of ride journals, trail reviews, equipment discussion, and photgraphs. The internet is a good place to vent, so from time to time we may wander off-topic.

We write and maintain the site for fun. It would be great if others enjoyed it too, but it's not strictly necessary. We always like getting comments and feedback from readers, so please feel free to comment on any of the postings or send us an email.

During the week he is a mild mannered elementary school teacher, trying to get students to understand the black art of long division. When the weekend arrives he can be found riding the singletrack of Central Ontario, thinking of excuses to avoid any log bridges.

Lyle loves his bike

He lives in Orillia with his wife Renee and their Chocolate Labrador Retriever, Oakley. Other interests include: military history, computer gaming, and talking politics over a post ride beer.

I'm pretty busy coding and don't want to spend tons of time on my bio, but here's my half-assed attempt. I am...

  • a staff consultant at an environmental engineering firm
  • too chicken to ride off a 6 foot drop, but quite capable of riding the hydro-cut bridges without much trouble
  • happily married but not grown up
  • learning php and mySQL along the way
  • out of shape
  • tired and going to bed.
